What is DC213?
DefCon Group 213 is the Los Angeles chapter of a nationwide effort to provide a friendly learning environment for people with technical interests.
What goes on at the meetings?
The meeting begins with meeting for drinks at the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf nextdoor to Jerry's Deli, where everyone has a chance to socialize. At 8:30pm the group moves over to the front patio of Jerry's Deli for the main event, which is usually a lecture, panel, or demonstration. Our talks cover a wide variety of topics.
How long are the talks?
Typically, the talks run 30 - 60 minutes, followed by a full Q/A session. Specific times will be left to the speaker and audience.
Who is welcome at DC213?
DC213 welcomes anyone with a good attitude who wants to expand their knowledge and skills. We welcome attendees from all disciplines and interests. DC213 is not a "hacker meeting" or a LUG; this is a gathering that covers all areas of technology.
While anyone is welcome to attend, we do ask that members of the media or any law enforcement organization make themselves known to the meeting organizer. This helps us prevent misunderstandings and assure there are no conflicts.
Our hosts at STI have given the meeting organizer the right to refuse individuals permission to be on the premises. Please keep this in mind and keep all behavior civil while at the meeting.
Is DC213 a rival to LA2600 or other area meetings?
Yes. Boycott LA2600! All they ever talk about is Tattooing potatoes anyway :)
Seriously, though, we are not at all a rival meeting. The organizers and many attendees of DC213 are regulars at LA2600, Digital Decay, and other meetings.
Who runs DC213?
The meeting is officially organized by Vidiot, but a number of members of the geek community have contributed time and effort to get it running.
