What is DC213?
DefCon Group 213 (DC213) is a meeting for hackers, industry professionals, technophiles, and anyone with an interest in technology and its continuously changing role in today's world. Lectures, panels, and other presentations are of a highly technical nature and are geared towards giving attendees both in-depth knowledge of theory as well as practical skills that can be put to use in real-world scenarios.
DC213's ultimate goal is to help members of the tech community expand their horizons through collaboration and the sharing of information, and to have a good time doing it. Our meetings are a place where you can kick back and relax with other technically minded people while learning something new and interesting.
When is the next meeting?
Our next meeting will be on Friday the 15 Aug 2008.
Check the Meetings page for more information.
I've never been to a DC213 meeting. Should I come?
Absolutely. We always welcome new attendees. We do not believe in elitism, so if you come to have a good time and don't behave like an asshat, you'll fit in just fine. You may want to join our mailing list or drop into our IRC channel to get in touch with other members before the meeting and to keep in touch with them after the meeting.
DC213 Code of Conduct
DC213's code of conduct is based on simple respect and common courtesy. We are a fairly organized meeting, and rest assured that if you come to the meeting with a good attitude and an open mind, you will learn something new. Our meetings are divided into a dinner and a presentation. We're very grateful to our hosts for providing us with an awesome meeting space, and we're not going to let you screw it up for us.
During the talk, we ask that you respect the speakers by paying attention or, at the very least, being quiet during presentations. As anyone who has given a talk knows, it's hard enough without having to compete with audience members for attention.
With that said, DC213 is by no means draconian or fascist in its rules and regulations -- if you wish to have a conversation during a presentation, we ask that you either take it outside or wait until the presentation is over. After all, you did come to the meeting to see the presentation, right?
